Advocacy is not something Dr. Aliya Frederick does alongside her work — it is the thread that runs through all of it. From the clinic to the stage, from the classroom to community platforms, every role she holds is anchored in the same conviction: that access, representation, and mentorship are not privileges — they are necessities.
Dr. Frederick's own path to becoming a pediatric neurologist was shaped profoundly by the people, programs, and opportunities that believed in her potential before she fully believed in it herself. That experience drives her commitment to ensuring the next generation — particularly young people from underrepresented communities — has not just the inspiration, but the concrete support and access needed to succeed.

Representation in Medicine & STEM

As a Black woman in a field where representation remains critically low, Dr. Frederick takes seriously her responsibility to be visible, and accessible. Through pageantry, public speaking, media appearances, and community engagement, she ensures that young people — especially young people of color — can look up and see what is possible.

Dr. Frederick is committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in medicine, science, and the workplace. In her DEI leadership roles, she champions a culture of belonging — advocating not just for representation in numbers, but for environments where diverse individuals are supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. She participates in faculty-level advocacy and institutional initiatives designed to move the needle on equity in academic medicine and STEM disciplines.
Youth Inspiration & Education
Long before young people are choosing medical schools or PhD programs, they are deciding whether science or medicine is for them. Dr. Frederick meets young people at that crucial crossroads. Through school visits, youth organization partnerships, and community appearances, she works to get diverse youth excited about science and medicine early, building the curiosity and confidence that set the trajectory for lifelong achievement.
Health Awareness & Community Education
The walls of a clinic should never be the only place where communities receive health information. Dr. Frederick uses her platform and her medical expertise to bring health awareness and education directly to the communities she serves — translating complex medical knowledge into accessible, empowering information that helps people advocate for themselves and their families.

Dr. Frederick's accomplishments have earned her widespread recognition, including being named a San Diego Power Woman (2022), a San Diego Black Leader of Influence (2025), a Woman of Achievement Award of Excellence winner (2025), and a Woman of Influence in Healthcare (2025) and several commendations from the State. On a global scale, Dr. Frederick is a four-time Global Beauty Awards winner for Best in Science (2023), Best in Healthcare (2024) and Best in Education (2025) and Best in Healthcare (2026).
